Steve Miller (Acworth, GA, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: ShedMonster De-Shedding Tool for Medium to Long Coats (Misc.) Dog Hair WarsSome dog owners are neophytes in the grooming battle. If you ever get a Siberian Husky or another breed like it, let me tell you, you become an expert in one thing: SHEDDING. One Siberian Husky breed description site flatly stated, "If you don't like dog hair, don't get a Siberian Husky. This dog is equipped with excessive fur to survive sub zero temperatures. The insulating downy undercoat sheds in early to late spring. They shed a little all year round." So as a husky owner, I'm now embattled in the never-ending war against dog hair in the house. I've tried slicker brushes, combing the undercoat, and even the pricy FURminator (over $60 at our local Petco store). But, when you're desperate, you'll even spend $60 on a brush because it promises to "By reducing shedding up to 90%, the FURminator deShedding Tool." I've used the FURminator with much success, but I have heard "rumblings" from other dog owners about "brush burn"... I have two long-hair, mixed breed, large (70 lbs.) dogs. Both pets are part German Shepherd and they have a thick coat and a heavy undercoat and seem to constantly shed (summer or winter). Even with continued maintenance (including twice yearly shaves with a pair of high-quality dog clippers), the dogs shed year round.I've tried many other tools including the furminator, the pick/tooth style brushes, and the plastic/rubber nub brushes. The other tools work OK, in that they do remove some fur. I'm not a big fan of "as seen on TV" products, but for $20 I figured I'd give this a shot (the medium Furminator retails for $60 in store). I've had the ShedMonster about a week but so far I've removed an incredible amount of fur from my dogs, enough to warrant the $20 price tag. The ShedMonster doesn't pull the dogs skin or make them uncomfortable in any way. It's super easy to clean and remove the excess hair. The teeth are sufficiently deep to gather a nice... When i saw this ad on TV I thought it looked neat but was not about to order something on TV like that. When I saw it at petsmart I couldn't resist it and purchased it straight away.I have a goldie/spaniel pup and a thick haired cat both that were in dire need of something as my wood floors were starting to look like a barber shop's floor and just like the ads on TV it really does produce a mound of fur. The cat and dog both love it and sits either wagging or purring. I can't rate this high enough. |
